Topstep Permitted Products List 2026 — Every Contract You Can Trade

📅 Updated April 2026 ⏱ 8 min read ✍ Tradecovex Team
Quick Answer

Topstep permits CME Group exchange-listed futures only across four exchanges: CME, NYMEX, COMEX, and CBOT. This includes equity index futures (ES, NQ, YM, RTY and all micros), energies (CL, NG and micros), metals (GC, SI and micros), crypto futures (MBT, MET), FX futures (6E, 6B, 6J and more), agriculture (ZC, ZS, ZW, ZL), and interest rate futures. Stocks, options, spot forex, spot crypto, and CFDs are not permitted. The product list is identical for the Trading Combine and Funded Accounts. All positions must be closed by 3:10 PM CT daily.

01Trading hours

Before looking at the product list, know the trading window. Topstep uses Central Time (CT) for all session boundaries. Trading is open from 5:00 PM CT to 3:10 PM CT, Monday through Friday. After weekends, trading resumes on Sunday at 5:00 PM CT. All positions must be flat by 3:10 PM CT each day. Topstep recommends not opening new positions after 3:08 PM CT because risk managers begin flattening at that time.

CBOT commodity products (corn, wheat, soybeans, soybean meal, soybean oil) have a daily trading pause from 7:45 AM to 8:30 AM CT. During this pause, no orders are accepted. If you have an open CBOT commodity position during the pause, the manual lock-out feature will not be available on your TopstepX account.

⚠ No overnight or swing trading

Topstep is for day traders only. You cannot hold positions from one session to the next or into the weekend. If you are still in a position at 3:10 PM CT, the risk team will flatten it for you.

02CME Exchange products

The CME exchange covers equity index futures, FX futures, livestock, and crypto futures. This is where most Topstep traders spend their time.

06Micro contracts and position sizing

This is where most traders get caught. At Topstep, each micro contract counts as one full contract toward your maximum position size. On a 50K account with a 5-contract limit, trading 5 MES micros will max you out, the same as trading 5 ES contracts. Micros are not treated as fractional positions.

The advantage of micros is finer position sizing. Instead of jumping from 2 ES to 3 ES (a 50% increase in exposure), you can move from 20 MES to 25 MES (a 25% increase). That granularity matters when the Daily Loss Limit and consistency target are both sensitive to single-trade P&L. For the full breakdown of account sizes and contract limits, see Topstep Account Sizes and Profit Targets 2026.

💡 Practical recommendation for new Topstep traders

Start with micros. On a 50K account ($1,000 Daily Loss Limit on TopstepX), a single ES contract with a 10-tick stop is $125 at risk. A single MES with the same stop is $12.50. Micros let you prove your edge with minimal risk to your drawdown. Scale up to standard contracts once you are consistently profitable.

07What you cannot trade on Topstep

Topstep is futures-only. The following are explicitly prohibited across all account types:

The FX futures listed in the CME section above (6E, 6B, 6J, etc.) are exchange-listed futures contracts, not spot forex. Likewise, MBT and MET are CME-listed crypto futures, not spot crypto.

08Running multiple products with a trade copier

If you run multiple Topstep funded accounts with a trade copier, the permitted products list applies identically across all accounts. A copier replicates the same trades from your lead account to every follower account, so as long as your lead account trades only permitted products, all follower accounts will too. The position size limit per account still applies independently. Five 50K accounts each have their own 5-contract limit.

The product list is the same across Combine, Express Funded, and Live Funded accounts. What changes between account stages are the drawdown rules, profit targets, and payout requirements, not the instruments you can trade.
